Stress Management Skills

Stress can be the result of many different circumstances; heavy workload, time pressure, relationship stress, internal or external expectations of performance, and environmental discomfort are a few examples.  If stress factors affect individuals in unique ways, it is reasonable to expect that there is not a ‘one-size-fits-all' solution to stress.

Participants will work with an experienced psychologist to learn and practice a range of techniques in order to assist them to understand and cope with stress.

Using Time Productively

Time wasting is an often under-calculated consideration of the payroll.  Research in 2005 by Salary.com suggested that the average American employee wastes over 2 hours per day.  This equates to around 25% of salary and conditions being paid for employees to surf the web, chat on instant messaging, and conduct superfluous ‘meetings' at the coffee shop on the corner.  And Australian research shows that our figures are not much better.

Despite the potential costs of time-wasting activities, evidence is emerging those staff members whose employers allow some indulgence in social chat and personal use of the internet during work hours can be more productive overall than those who are not permitted any dalliances.

This half-day workshop is designed to examine a variety of strategies to promote the most effective use of time in the workplace, and would be very valuable to supervisors and managers.

Reinforcing Productive Workplace Behaviour

The aim of an effective workplace reward scheme is to create repeated, productive behaviour, a sense that these contributions are recognised and valued by the organisation, and a belief that the individuals themselves are valued.  Achieving these outcomes may not be as simple as it seems, and some commonly used approaches may even result in employee dissatisfaction and disengagement.

Participants in this three-hour workshop will learn theories of workplace motivation, and the advantages and pitfalls of a variety of strategies to reinforce productive workplace behaviour.  Participants will work together to develop a workplace reward scheme that is tailored to the needs of their organisation and the behaviours they wish to reinforce.
